Christian Initiation of Adults
The human heart inevitably yearns to know the answers to the big questions. What is the purpose of my life? How do I make sense of the world and my place in it?
Jesus Christ has revealed the ultimate truth of who we are and how we ought to live. As the one entrusted with these truths, the Catholic Church hands them on to all who wish to receive them. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a series of classes, rituals, and practical training in living out the faith. Through OCIA, people are brought into the Church to live as God’s children.
Classes begin each fall, leading up to the Easter Vigil when new believers are initiated into the Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops provides a broad overview of the process of becoming Catholic.
